Cross-check product name and grape variety.
The ingredient section for Petite Sirah 2020 states 100% Syrah. Do not speculate about alternative grape varieties based only on the product’s spelling; check the variety as listed by the producer.
Grand Cuvée of four varieties
Grand Cuvée 2020 is Merlot 28%, Syrah 27%, Petit Verdot 28%, Cabernet Sauvignon 17%. While Syrah is a component, the other 73% are three different varieties. It does not meet the conditions for a Syrah single-variety wine.
New oak rate and maturation months
Petite Sirah is aged for 12 months in 50% new barrels and 50% barrels used for one year. Grand Cuvée is matured for 18 months in all new barrels. Both use French oak, but while the material is the same, the barrel usage history and aging time differ.
Differences that remain when comparing wines from the same year
Both wines are from 2020. Even so, grape composition, grape selection, and barrel conditions all change together. When comparing flavors, do not attribute the difference solely to the 6-month difference in maturation; list any other differing conditions as well.
