FIELD NOTE 01
Syrah and Petit Verdot
For 2019, the official documents state the blend is 36% Syrah, 33% Petit Verdot, 25% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Sauvignon. If you assume from the producer's Bordeaux experience that Merlot or Cabernet will form the majority, you will overlook this blend.
FIELD NOTE 02
Sorting and aging
Grapes from selected vineyards and the winery are aged for 12 months in new and once-used French oak barrels. This refers to the specific product discussed, and does not apply to all Bulgarian Reserva-labeled wines. Note barrel type and number of months aged separately.
FIELD NOTE 03
Order of evaluating blends
First, check the actual blend ratios, then observe fruit, acidity, tannin, and oak aromas. You cannot allocate the exact proportions of each grape's contribution based solely on taste. Comparing with different vintages or other products from the same producer and tracking changes in blend and winemaking deepens your understanding.
Incorrect. The data shows Syrah 36%, Petit Verdot 33%, Merlot 25%, Cabernet 6%.
