FIELD NOTE 01

Rebula in the west

Rebula is also known as Ribolla Gialla and is a key variety for Brda. In Vipava, I also want to study Zelen and Pinela. The name Rebula for the grape does not specify skin fermentation. The main differences among bottles of the same variety arise from the extraction and maturation choices.

FIELD NOTE 02

Reinterpret inland whites

Šipon corresponds to Furmint, and Laški Rizling to Welschriesling. Do not confuse the latter with Rhine Riesling. Collecting synonyms and variety relationships—including Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Gris—on a single notebook page makes cross-border comparison easier.

FIELD NOTE 03

Red and blends.

Modra Frankinja is Blaufränkisch. In Primorska, Refošk is also important and an entry point to learning about the Teran class. In Dolenjska, Cviček is a study theme for blending black and white varieties. Confirm that color classification, grape names, and traditional designations each serve different purposes.

Key points of this article

Furmint is also important in Hungary. Even for the same variety, sweetness and style shift depending on region and vinification.
