FIELD NOTE 01

Geography

It consists of two regions: Štajerska Slovenija and Prekmurje. Use the western mountains and the eastern Pannonian Plain as landmarks. There are many slopes and terraced vineyards—consider the vineyard orientation in relation to sunlight and cold air flow. Even around the same town, growing conditions differ between flatlands and slopes.

FIELD NOTE 02

Representative grape varieties and wines

Use Šipon, Sauvignon Blanc, Rhine Riesling, Pinot Gris, etc., as a base for white. Blaufränkisch is also important in Prekmurje. Don't remember 'There are only whites in famous white regions, so no reds'; understanding expands by adding each district’s specialty to the regional map.

FIELD NOTE 03

Deeper Perspectives

Include the sparkling wines of Gornja Radgona in your studies. Consider separately the intention behind using grapes with preserved acidity and the flavors developed through secondary fermentation and aging on the lees. When comparing still and sparkling whites, use the product information to check whether the grape varieties are the same and what differences exist in harvest and maturation.
