FIELD NOTE 01
Geography
Primorska consists of Goriška Brda, Vipavska Dolina, Kras, and Slovenska Istra. The strength of the Adriatic Sea's influence varies by district. If Brda is placed along the Italian border, shift your focus to the inland valleys, limestone terrain, and districts closer to the sea.
FIELD NOTE 02
Representative grape varieties and wines
In Brda, Rebula is significant and can be compared with Ribolla Gialla on the Italian side. It is also important to note the story of strata containing marl, and not to equate soil characteristics directly with aromas in the glass. Soil plays a role in cultivation through water retention, drainage, and root growth, so it's best to avoid the explanation that mineral flavors in wine are simply transferred from the stones.
FIELD NOTE 03
Deeper Perspectives
The Teran of Kras is made from Refosco, and in Slovenska Istra, Refosco and Malvazija are the key indicators. Even within Primorska, there is more range than can be explained by Rebula alone. Assign representative varieties for each of the four districts, and in the next stage, add the differences in skin contact and aging methods.
Understand the location and terrain of the district, and connect representative varieties to actual winemaking processes.
