FIELD NOTE 01

Northern Lake Erie Shore

Lake Erie North Shore is at the southwest edge of Ontario and includes the South Islands. It is a region with a long, warm growing season, which encourages ripening of red varieties. Don’t assume all Canadian regions have the same short summer just from the country name.

FIELD NOTE 02

Prince Edward County

This region at the eastern edge of Lake Ontario has limestone and stony soils, with important varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. It is a different place from the similarly named Prince Edward Island on the Atlantic coast. First, grasp its position in relation to the lake.

FIELD NOTE 03

Winter management

Among County producers, there are examples of protecting vines from the winter cold by mounding soil or covering them with protective cloth. While the cool growing season is valued, maintaining the vineyards through winter protection is also labor-intensive. In addition to flavor descriptions, learn about the work required to maintain the vineyards.
