FIELD NOTE 01

What VCP indicates

Vino de Calidad Preferente is a quality classification based on grape varieties of Vitis vinifera authorized by INAVI, along with analytical and organoleptic conditions. It is not the same as a single European appellation. Note that the VCP designation alone does not determine the vineyard, barrel use, or aging period.

FIELD NOTE 02

Do not mix proportions

In the promulgated text including amendment Decree 283/993, vintage labeling requires that at least 85% of the raw materials are from that year, and for single-variety labeling, that variety must make up at least 85%. If two varieties are indicated, these two must total 100%. Even when the numbers are identical, vintage and variety composition should be interpreted as separate conditions.

FIELD NOTE 03

Region and product name

Geographical indication involves proof that the grapes were grown in the relevant area and that the name is used appropriately. Do not presume the origin of the grapes solely from the location of the producer. Nor can a product name such as Reserva be used to infer Spanish aging requirements. Separate origin, variety, vintage, and winemaking process, and check technical documentation accordingly.
