Caymus: Napa and California sourcing range

A Napa Valley-based producer from the Wagner family, focused on Cabernet Sauvignon. In addition to Napa labels, starting with the 2021 vintage, they have also released a California Cabernet using grapes from multiple regions within the state.

List the label indications that distinguish the two Caymus Cabernets and any information that cannot be determined from official descriptions alone.

Another label from the same producer

Caymus produces both a Napa Valley Cabernet and a California Cabernet, the latter introduced from the 2021 vintage. Even with the same producer and variety, if you overlook the labeled region you may miss the difference in grape origin.

Search various locations within the state

The official description for California Cabernet states that the grapes are sourced from Paso Robles, as well as Lake, San Benito, and Monterey counties. You cannot assume Napa-only grapes just because the producer is based there; reverse reasoning from winery location is not possible.

Range of grape sources and annual proportions

The regions listed explain the sourcing range for raw materials, but this page does not provide the breakdown percentage by region for each harvest year. When comparing, only use the fact that there are 'multiple regions'—do not supplement with speculation such as assigning an even 25% each to the four regions.
