02 / HISTORY

Historical and regional background

In Marche, where towns and villages are scattered, Verdicchio is known as the principal white grape. In contrast, red wines are found in Conero near the sea, and wines from different varieties exist in Offida in the south. The region as a whole includes different production areas for both white and red wines.

04 / A CLOSER LOOK

Varieties and Appellation Comparison

Expanding the comparison beyond Jesi and Matelica to include grape varieties such as Montepulciano and Pecorino will highlight regional differences within the same region. Even for labels that include the same place name, the full designation must be recorded—since the full wording differs between the basic DOC and the Riserva designations, you need the complete name to properly identify them.
