01 / GEOGRAPHY

Topography and Growing Environment

In the Castelli Romani southeast of Rome, there are volcanic hills and lakes. Frascati is a representative white wine from this area. However, there are also vineyards in the north and inland areas, so the region as a whole does not share the same terrain or wine profile.

Historical and regional background

The major city of Rome is also the consumption site for wines from the surrounding regions. There is both a function in supplying local dining tables and a system of appellations to identify where the wine comes from. Even wines commonly consumed locally differ by grape composition and region.

04 / A CLOSER LOOK

Varieties and Appellation Comparison

For white wines made with Malvasia types or Trebbiano types, there are also Cesanese reds inland. Even around Frascati, the names and production requirements differ for Frascati, Frascati Superiore, and Cannellino di Frascati. Words following a shared place name are also important for wine identification.

Let’s think about it

Even if the place name Frascati is shared, why is it necessary to read the official label name?
