FIELD NOTE 01
Geography
Vipavska Dolina is a long, narrow valley within Primorska. It is influenced by cold Alpine air and the Adriatic Sea, and wind is a key factor in reading the region. Do not assume a moderate climate just because it is relatively near the sea. Check the orientation of the valley and the slopes on maps and vineyard photos from producers.
FIELD NOTE 02
Representative grape varieties and wines
Želen and Pinela are key white grapes to remember for this district. Rebula, Malvasia, and Merlot also appear. Do not assume extended skin fermentation just because the grape names are unfamiliar; check what the base material is and what vessel was used. Even for white blends, the varietal composition and the vinification process are separate details.
FIELD NOTE 03
Deeper Perspectives
Trace the process of Guerila's Rebula: harvest, skin contact, pressing, and aging with barrels and lees, in chronological order. Certification of cultivation methods, yeast used for fermentation, and filtration status are each independent factors. Rather than summarizing with the term 'natural', describing each process clearly makes it easier to consider flavor differences.
Understand the location and terrain of the district, and connect representative varieties to actual winemaking processes.
