FIELD NOTE 01

The hills of Muntenia

Dealu Mare is an appellation spreading along the southern foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. Check the sun-exposed slopes and types of soils, and position it as a country’s representative red wine region. Each winery has different plots and slopes, so do not decide a single taste based only on the regional name.

FIELD NOTE 02

List the red varieties

Compare Fetească Neagră, Merlot, Cabernet, etc. Record the degree of fruit maturity, tannin, and oak separately, and do not use dark color alone as evidence of new barrel use. To understand regional reds, you need to consider both the variety and the extraction.

FIELD NOTE 03

Check against the specification sheet.

DOC also includes white and sparkling types. The CT sugar content requirement for vintage labeling differs between red and white, so you can’t just rely on remembering famous regions for red. In the detailed article, compare with Cotnari and check where the numbers apply.

Key points of this article

No. The specification also includes categories such as white and sparkling.

PAUSE & REFLECT
