FIELD NOTE 01

Appellations are a set of combined requirements.

Protected origin names have specifications for vineyard zones, grape varieties, wine types, yields, and winemaking. National region explanations serve a different role from individual product specification documents. For example, an area-wide explanation of Kakheti can't clarify the differences between Tsinandali and Kindzmarauli.

FIELD NOTE 02

Update Tsinandali

The Sakpatenti specification I checked recognizes dry white and dry red for Tsinandali. The white must be at least 85% Rkatsiteli and up to 15% Kakhuri Mtsvane. The red is Saperavi only. If you remember 'a white appellation,' update your notes to distinguish between the traditional explanation and the current range of verified products.

FIELD NOTE 03

Distinguish between fixed blends and maximum limits

The meaning of 85% or above and 15% or below is not necessarily that the blend must always be 85 to 15. Also, eligibility for the designation and the use or non-use of qvevri are separate checks. Distinguishing what can be determined from the label, from the spec sheet, and what would need technical documentation from the producer allows you to avoid recording assumptions as facts.
