FIELD NOTE 01

Area and grape variety

Dingač is an appellation on the south-facing slopes of the Pelješac Peninsula, planted with Plavac Mali. The published specifications describe the southwest orientation and vine training methods. Do not memorize place names and variety names as a single set: keep in mind that the same variety is planted elsewhere too.

FIELD NOTE 02

Klasiko and Riserva

According to publicly available Ministry of Agriculture specifications, Klasiko requires at least 12 months, with a minimum of 9 months in wood barrels and 3 months in bottle. Riserva requires at least 24 months, with at least 18 months in wood barrels and 6 months in bottle. Here, barrel and bottle aging are separate and consecutive steps, so the interpretation differs from descriptions like Guerila’s, where barrel and lees aging overlap.

FIELD NOTE 03

Minimum requirements and individual products

These represent conditions for using labeling terms, not a uniform classification for all Plavac Mali throughout the country. If a producer matures the wine longer than the stated condition, it's necessary to compare with the label. When comparing styles, you’ll want to separately record not just barrel duration, but also barrel size and usage history, as well as changes from bottle aging.
