FIELD NOTE 01

What should you control?

The current standards for VIGNO require at least 85% Carignan, vines over 30 years old, dry farming, bush training, and location in the Secano Interior of southern Maule. Any other varieties making up the remaining 15% must also meet the same conditions except for grape variety.

FIELD NOTE 02

24 months does not refer to the period in new casks

A minimum of 24 months aging is required, but various vessels such as large barrels, small barrels, cement, amphorae, and bottles can be used in combination. If you memorize only the number, you might misunderstand and think that all 24 months must be in new oak barrels. Read period and vessel separately.

FIELD NOTE 03

Relationship with the country's DO

VIGNO is a set of standards established by a producers’ group. The old vine, dry farming, and varietal restrictions do not apply to all wines from Maule DO. Be able to explain what the mark conveys in addition to a standard DO indication.
