Château Rayas: Regional Typicity and Unique Vineyards
This producer is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and owns sandy vineyards surrounded by forest. The red wine uses Grenache; the white uses Grenache and Clairette.
This explains the characteristics of Rayas, which are not conveyed by the general image of the region, using the vineyards and composition of red and white grape varieties.
Questions for this course
If it's Châteauneuf-du-Pape, does it mean large, round galets and a multi-varietal blend?
Before you start reading, briefly jot down your thoughts. You will rephrase them at the end.

Vineyards with sandy soil
The official explanation from Rayas highlights their poor, sandy vineyard soils in the forest. If you only memorize Châteauneuf-du-Pape as pictured with round pebbles, you won't be able to explain the source of this producer's grapes.
Only Grenache as the red.
The red wine from Rayas is 100% Grenache. Just because multiple varieties are permitted in this region does not mean that every wine is obliged to include many varieties. Differentiate between the permitted range and the producer's selection.
Two white varieties.
The correct description for the white wine is 50% Grenache and 50% Clairette. Since red and white have different blends, omitting color and saying 'Rayas is 100% Grenache' results in a mistaken introduction. Including both the label and color prevents this confusion.

Château Rayas: Reading the Technical Sheets – Regional Typicity and Unique Vineyards
Compare the stated conditions in the documentation. Numbers specifying vintages should be treated as information for that specific year.
This summarizes materials published by producers, regional groups, and importers. Each source includes the publisher and the date the material was checked.

How does Rayas describe its soils?
The official documents detail the specific conditions of individual vineyards.
What is the red grape composition?
Authorized grape varieties for a region and the varieties used in a particular wine are different things.
Which is the correct description for a white wine?
We introduce the blends for red and white separately. There is an explanation that red is 100% Grenache, while white is 50% Grenache and 50% Clairette. Do not extend the red blend to all labels based only on the producer's name—ensure to specify the colour when introducing the blend.

Explain in your own words
Explain the characteristics of Rayas, which are not conveyed by the general image of the region, using the vineyards and composition of red and white grape varieties.
Check after writing
- Did you specify the label, vintage, and scope of materials to be compared?
- Did you distinguish and explain the three items in the table?
- Did you separate verified facts from points to check further with additional references or tasting?
