Bruno Giacosa: The locations of Asili and Falletto
Bruno Giacosa is a producer in Piedmont known for Barolo and Barbaresco. Notable vineyards include Asili in Barbaresco and Falletto in Serralunga d’Alba. Even among Nebbiolo wines from the same producer, the geographical scope indicated on the label differs.
Asili and Falletto belong to different appellations. In addition, there are subplots within the vineyards, so it's necessary to clarify each level of place names.

First, separate Barolo and Barbaresco.
Asili is a vineyard in the village of Barbaresco. By contrast, Falletto belongs to Serralunga d’Alba in the Barolo production area. Even from the same producer with Nebbiolo, the wines cross two appellations. Before memorizing vineyard names, clarify the village and the appellation to which each belongs.
The overall vineyard is not the same as the owned plot.
The importer’s notes explain that Giacosa owns part of Asili, while Falletto owns the entire vineyard. Just seeing the vineyard name Asili does not mean all of it is Giacosa wine. Consider geographic names separately from who cultivates what part.
Vigna Le Rocche is part of Falletto.
Falletto Vigna Le Rocche designates a parcel within Falletto. Don’t confuse it with another ‘Rocche’ in Castiglione Falletto—read both the preceding and following names. Also, label color (white or the red Riserva label) varies by vintage, so you can’t decide release style from the place name alone each year.

Which appellation does Asili belong to?
Asili is a vineyard in the village of Barbaresco. Since Giacosa also makes Barolo, you cannot determine the appellation of the wine by producer name alone. Read in order: vineyard name, village, then appellation on the label.
Which statement about Falletto is correct?
Falletto is located in Serralunga d’Alba, within the Barolo production zone. It’s important not to confuse it with Castiglione Falletto, which has a similar name. Always check not only vineyard names, but also their exact location.
How is Vigna Le Rocche positioned?
Here, Vigna Le Rocche is a plot within Falletto. The plot name and the 'Riserva' indication are different pieces of information. Even if the vineyard is the same, confirmation is required as to which label it was released under that year.
