Château Branaire-Ducru: Fermenting by plot and blending
A red wine producer in Saint-Julien, making Château Branaire-Ducru and Duluc de Branaire-Ducru. They harvest and vinify each plot separately, then blend at the end, using a gravity-fed winemaking facility.
Separate the roles of the vinification by plot stage and the blending stage, and list the materials needed to compare the two brands.

Why not vinify wines intended for blending together in a single tank from the start?

Fermentation by plot and variety.
The harvested grapes are vinified separately according to parcel and variety, using tanks of different sizes. If they are blended at the start, it is impossible to single out just one parcel after fermentation. By fermenting them separately, you can assess the condition of each lot prior to blending.
Gravity and number of tanks
Regarding the new facility from 2022, the official description states a total of 75 tanks, of which 65 are suspended-type. 65 and 75 are not different ways of counting the same thing. Gravity describes how the grapes and wine are moved; the tank count describes the capacity to vinify separate lots.
Two brands and annual data.
The official annual list separately lists Château and Duluc. The shared policy of vinifying by plot alone does not mean the blends and aging conditions for the two brands are the same. Make sure to synchronize the year and brand before reading their respective documents.

Explain in your own words
Separate the roles of the vinification by plot stage and the blending stage, and list the materials needed to compare the two brands.
Check after writing
- Did you associate each label with its region and grape variety?
- Did you separate the shared and differing conditions in your comparison?
- Did you clearly indicate the year(s) the material covers or the date checked?
