01 / GEOGRAPHY
Topography and Growing Environment
In Liguria, mountains rise immediately behind the coastline. Even vineyards close to the sea differ in conditions depending on the slope, wind exposure, and inland distance. By dividing Riviera in the west from Cinque Terre in the east, you can clarify exactly where vineyards are within this elongated region.

02 / HISTORY
Historical and regional background
The dry stone walls of Cinque Terre, among others, are testimony to the labor that turned steep slopes into farmland. The terraced scenery was not created solely by the form of the slopes; the building and ongoing maintenance of these walls are also a factor in viticultural conditions.

04 / A CLOSER LOOK
Varieties and Appellation Comparison
In addition to whites such as Vermentino and Pigato, there are reds like Rossese and Ormeasco. Ormeasco is the local name for Dolcetto, representing an example of a local designation for the same variety. Starting from a focus on coastal white varieties, the range can be broadened to include inland grapes and wines.
From the name Ormeasco, what can you deduce about the relationship between grape variety and region?
