FIELD NOTE 01
Broad regional names and valley names
The Aconcagua region in the wine law and the Aconcagua Valley within it do not cover the same area. Casablanca and San Antonio are also within the larger Aconcagua region. Always check on the label and map at which level the place name is being used.
FIELD NOTE 02
Inland reds
Errázuriz's inland vineyards grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and other varieties. The soils contain stones brought by the river, and there are slopes; conditions vary depending on the location in the valley. By using the company's vineyards, it is possible to compare the origin of the grapes even within a single producer.
FIELD NOTE 03
Whites and Pinot Closer to the Sea
The company’s Aconcagua Costa includes Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and others. Because it is cooled by ocean breezes, its ripening conditions differ from inland reds. The key point is not to remember Aconcagua solely as a red wine region.
