FIELD NOTE 01

Too large for a single wine region

Mendoza has several subregions: Luján de Cuyo, Maipú, Uco Valley, the North, the East, and the South. If a label simply says Mendoza, consult sources to determine which part, or if the wine is a blend from multiple areas.

FIELD NOTE 02

Luján de Cuyo

Important areas including Agrelo and Las Compuertas. The DOC shares production requirements centered on Malbec. When comparing wines from the region, distinguish between the usage of DOC and simple descriptions of location.

FIELD NOTE 03

Comparing with Maipú

Old vineyards such as Maipú's Lunlunta also serve as entry points for study. Compare Malbec from Luján de Cuyo with those of Uco, noting acidity, fruit ripeness, and tannin. A long history does not always mean the wine is heavy.
