This producer is located in Bolgheri on the coast of Tuscany. They make wines such as Ornellaia and the second wine Le Serre Nuove, and publish vintage-specific information for each label.
Compare the origins indicated on the labels for Le Serre Nuove in 2022 and 2024.
Questions for this course
If it's the same label, is the appellation shown also the same each year?
Before you start reading, briefly jot down your thoughts. You will rephrase them at the end.

2022 indication/labeling
The 2022 technical sheet for Le Serre Nuove identifies it as Bolgheri DOC Rosso and gives a blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. Treat both the designation and the proportions as information specific to that vintage.
Different indication for 2024
On the official page for the same label in 2024, it says Toscana IGT Rosso. If a previous introduction states ‘this label is always Bolgheri DOC’, it would conflict with the vintage-specific labeling published by the producer.
Do not construct a reason solely from label differences.
You can confirm that there are two different indications, but this alone is not grounds for concluding that the origin of the ingredients has changed or that quality has declined. Distinguish the fact of the labeling from the producer’s explanation of the change.

Ornellaia Reading Materials: Tracing Appellation Indication for the Same Label
Compare the stated conditions in the documentation. Numbers specifying vintages should be treated as information for that specific year.

What is shown for the 2022 labeling?
Will confirm in the technical documents for the applicable vintage.
How is the 2024 page displayed?
Even with the same label, the indicated information differs.
What can you determine definitively just from labeling differences?
A different basis is needed to explain the reason for the change. The bottle is labeled Bolgheri DOC in 2022 and Toscana IGT in 2024. This is simply a notice of different labeling. Why it changed is a separate question, so do not add quality or vineyard movement as reasons.

Explain in your own words
Introduce the labeling of Le Serre Nuove for two different years, and separately explain that the reason for the difference is unconfirmed.
Check after writing
- Did you specify the label, vintage, and scope of materials to be compared?
- Did you distinguish and explain the three items in the table?
- Did you separate verified facts from points to check further with additional references or tasting?
