Crossbreeding among black grape varieties
Kai Noir is a red wine grape obtained by crossing Black Queen and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is not simply a blend of the two varieties’ wines, but a newly developed grape. Comparing to the parent varieties also involves differences in vineyards and winemaking.
In Yamanashi City, early October
Sources from Yamanashi Prefecture explain that in Yamanashi City, it ripens in early October, similar to Cabernet Sauvignon. This information refers to a specific observation site. If altitude, year, or temperatures in other regions differ, the same date cannot be directly used as a harvest standard.
View coloration and disease separately
The source notes intense skin color and resistance to splitting, while also cautioning about late-season rot. Berries being less prone to splitting does not mean total disease resistance. Distinguish between agronomic strengths and management challenges.

What combination of parent varieties?
Kai Blanc and Yamazaki are the results of separate crosses. Kai Noir is not a blend of these two varieties made at the winery, but a hybrid variety cultivated in the vineyard. When a source says maturation is in early October, be sure to consider that this applies specifically to conditions in Yamanashi City, where the variety was developed.
How is the harvest time of early October treated?
Do not separate location to make it the sole standard for harvest decisions.
If there is little berry splitting, are there also no diseases?
Fruit splitting and susceptibility to disease are different qualities.
