Greco: Tufo’s whites and harvest timing
Greco di Tufo and Fiano di Avellino. Use materials from the same producer to distinguish shared processes from different vineyards.
Questions for this course
If there are two whites from the same producer, is the difference in taste only due to grape variety?
Before you start reading, briefly jot down your thoughts. You will rephrase them at the end.

Varietals for Tufo White
Here, the Greco handled is the white variety used for Greco di Tufo in Campania. Mastroberardino’s product documentation states it is 100% Greco. Do not group similarly named varieties together; focus on this appellation and the ingredients of the product.
An example of an average elevation of 450 m.
The vineyards for this product are described as being mainly on clay-limestone soils, southeast facing, and at an average altitude of about 450 m. The harvest is noted as mid-October. These are conditions indicated for the specific vineyard used by the producer, and it does not mean all Greco vineyards are at the same altitude or have the same soil.
Distinguish between fermentation vessels and maturation
Winemaking is carried out in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for about 20 days, followed by several months of bottle aging. The same process is described in the Fiano materials. Once you confirm the common processes, you can compare the differences in grape variety and vineyard, avoiding confusion in comparison.

What winemaking vessels are shared according to the materials?
Stainless steel is specified in the winemaking for both products. If you identify the shared conditions first, you can then organize the differing ones.
Can the differences between the two wines be attributed solely to grape varieties?
In addition to grape varieties, vineyard conditions may also differ. Even comparison within the same producer leaves factors other than variety.
What do the values of about 400m and about 450m refer to?
This is the average value listed in the product documents. Do not interpret it as the value for the entire region or as the maximum cultivable altitude.
