Godello / Learn by grape variety

Update date: 2026-09-24

White varieties of Northwest Spain

Godello is the main variety to study for the whites of Valdeorras. However, more than one grape variety is used for white wines from this region. The regulatory council also introduces varieties such as Loureira, Treixadura, and Dona Blanca.

A category defined by grape variety name.

Valdeorras Godello, per the official explanation, is 100% Godello. In contrast, Valdeorras Blanco allows for authorized white varieties. Even wines from the same region may differ in composition unless the full designation is read.

Proceed to vinification once the blend is set

Even two wines that are 100% Godello may not be identical in how tank, barrel, or lees are managed. Separate what you learn from the regulating council’s categorization of ingredients from the process steps you verify in product details. The number 100% does not guarantee a uniform taste or aroma.

What is the grape composition of Valdeorras Godello, according to the official information?
Check the raw material conditions for each classification. Do not generalize these proportions to the varietal labelling rules of other regions.

Is Valdeorras Blanco always Godello only?
Several grape varieties are approved for whites in the region. You cannot determine if a wine is varietal just from the regional name.

If it’s 100% Godello, is the winemaking the same?
Blend ratio is a specification of the ingredient conditions. Record it separately from vessel and ageing conditions.
