FIELD NOTE 01

Historic regions of the East

Hunter Valley is located in New South Wales. Its growing season is warm and humid, so it does not fit the popular image of a dry continental country. Alongside Semillon, Chardonnay and Shiraz are also important varieties.

FIELD NOTE 02

Whites to be enjoyed early and whites for long aging

For non-barrel-aged Sémillon, some transition from youthful citrus-like notes to expressions reminiscent of toast or honey with bottle age. Do not use youthful lightness or lower alcohol as grounds for non-ageability.

FIELD NOTE 03

Go to process materials

Even if you sense toastiness in the aroma, it does not always indicate barrel use. Refer to the detailed article on Brokenwood ILR Reserve Semillon to verify skin contact, barrel use, and bottle aging. When comparing young and mature vintages, be sure to note vintage differences that remain.
