FIELD NOTE 01

Río Negro and Neuquén

In Río Negro, irrigation using river water has enabled agriculture to develop in arid lands. Take note of major regions in northern Patagonia, such as San Patricio del Chañar in Neuquén. Being further south does not always mean there is more rainfall.

FIELD NOTE 02

Not limited to Pinot only

In addition to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, there are also Malbec and Merlot. Río Negro has old vineyards, while other regions have new plantings, so conditions and history differ. Don’t assume all Patagonia wines have the same light style just from the regional name.

FIELD NOTE 03

Further south and east

In Chubut, cooler and more southerly growing areas spread out. Pinot Noir is produced not only in Patagonia, but also in Uco and Buenos Aires. To compare Pinot from across the country, a map showing altitude, latitude, and distance from the sea is useful.
