Aligoté / Learning from grape varieties

Synonym/Label: Aligoté

Update date: 2026-09-24

White wines made from Aligoté

Burgundy whites include not only Chardonnay but also Aligoté. Bourgogne Aligoté is a regional appellation using this white variety. The BIVB mentions aromas reminiscent of apple, lemon, and flowers, but you cannot rely on aroma alone to determine the variety.

Bouzeron indicated with the name of the village

Bouzeron is also a white wine made from Aligoté. According to INAO documentation, the production areas are Bouzeron and Chassey-le-Camp in the northern Côte Chalonnaise. The difference between these two labels lies mainly in geographical boundaries rather than grape variety.

Appellation and the outcome of a particular wine

Even if you narrow down the region, it does not mean the use of barrels or the timing of bottling will be the same. If comparing two wines, confirm winemaking in addition to producer, vintage, and vineyard. Do not use the presence or absence of a village name alone to judge aroma intensity or ranking preferences.
